Nepal is a seismically active region, located at the convergence of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, making it highly susceptible to earthquakes. One of the most devastating earthquakes in recent history struck Nepal on April 25, 2015. With a magnitude of 7.8, it devastated large parts of the country, including the capital, Kathmandu, and surrounding areas. The earthquake resulted in nearly 9,000 deaths and left tens of thousands injured. Additionally, millions were displaced, and thousands of homes, historic buildings, and cultural landmarks were destroyed. The earthquake also triggered avalanches on Mount Everest, claiming the lives of several climbers. The event highlighted the vulnerability of Nepal's infrastructure, which was ill-prepared for such a massive disaster. Despite the challenges, international aid and humanitarian efforts played a significant role in providing relief and rebuilding efforts. In the aftermath, the earthquake underscored the need for improved disaster preparedness, early warning systems, and stronger building regulations. Nepal’s experience has also brought attention to the resilience of its people, who have demonstrated remarkable strength in the face of adversity. While much progress has been made in rebuilding, the ongoing risk of future earthquakes remains a significant concern for the region.
